learning to dance for the wedding [Page 2 of 2]

Something for the groom and bride to do together

Never even considered dance lessons before your wedding? Brides and grooms who have tried it agree this is something you want to do with your bride-to-be. It's fun, it's therapeutic and you can avoid the kind of spectacular falls that may otherwise land you on YouTube (and not in a good way). If you set yourself a goal of not looking totally foolish for your first dance, you might actually come out of lessons looking pretty good. "We teach dancing in the same way sports are taught. It's all muscle memory. And it's no different than tennis or golf. Dancing can have a great effect on your golf game - we teach guys proper weight shifting. It can also loosen the hips." That must have added benefit in other departments.

Go the video route

Try checking the reviews on websites that sell instructional DVDs to get a better sense of what to expect - how long it takes, how much practice per day and what sort of results may materialize by the wedding. Practice in tandem with your bride-to-be if you really want to nail it. Or you could just practice alone, but that's likely to be awkward. And weird.

Not so common, anymore

As we hinted at before, you may also take comfort in the fact that there is infinitely more leeway these days when it comes to your first dance. A growing number of couples are bucking tradition altogether and choreographing full bust-a-move throwdowns, complete with hip-hop pop-and-locking and crowd-pleasing throwbacks like the cabbage patch. Furthermore, many couples are scrapping the dance altogether. Just remember: it takes two to tango, literally. Be sure to get your bride on board and practice hard if you want to earn big ups from the assembled revelers for years to come.

Finally, you'll want to choose the perfect song. The best weddings are the most personal, so look for a tune that captures the best of your relationship. For some that means humor, for others, unremitting romance. Just remember that dance and music go together, and so should you. [Page 2 of 2]

I seen about 40 couples do a class to learn to dance for their wedding! It's amazing how fast everyone learns and how much fun they have! Given the right DJ and the right Dance Instructors and this could add more fun to learning to dance! Also have an instructor come to the reception for an hour lesson to everyone! Usually something like swing hits the crowd for a ton of fun! You'll be surprised at the guest that will be involved and having fun also! Share the joy of dancing also on your wedding day!
