the reception [Page 2 of 3]

-Is there handicap accessibility if this a consideration for us?

- Do we need to hire caterers and/ or a wait staff?

- If we have a live band, are the acoustics good? Will they have access to all the outlets and things they'll need?

When?

The wedding reception can be immediately after your ceremony or late in the evening, depending on the proximity to the ceremony site, and what you plan to provide in terms of food and drink.   For example, if you are working on a very tight budget and can't provide a full dinner for your guests, you can hold a later reception (after-dinner hours) for drinks and cake.   Be sure that if you go this route, though, you include this information on the invitations, so people don't keep asking where the buffet is.

The last to arrive to the reception location is likely to be the wedding party, who often have photos taken beforehand. The last ones to leave the reception should generally be the groom and the bride, but times have changed, and special circumstances sometimes dictate that folks will need to leave at different times according to their lives and schedules.

What?

The reception is where all the guests gather for food, drinks, wedding toasts or speeches and entertainment.   Everyone will have a great time, and the night will go smoothly if you have a clear plan of how the reception will go well in advance.

Choose your MC wisely. This should be someone with a great personality who rubs people the right way and doesn't tend to get too controversial.   The MC should be outgoing, well-spoken, trustworthy, and funny.

Why not try fun games instead of dancing? Dancing is kinda boring now. yes? And oh, can you suggest photos or contribute photos about wedding venues and function centres for our site www.functioncentral.com.au? please do so. Thanks! Isabelle G. www.functioncentral.com.au Sydney, Australia

How about renting a really funny movie and show it on big screen at the reception. As everyone gets plastard, it will get even funnier. Most large hotel have the equipment or you can rent it from an audio/visual store.

I actually don't think dances are that interesting. I'd try for a wedding earlier in the day. Nobody wants to dance at 5 in the evening...you can still have a party but not have a dance that goes to midnight.

Any other fun ideas instead of a dance? My fiancee and I won\'t be having one because of religious reasons and because we\'re on a tight budget. We need a lot of help with what to do instead of a dance, something that people will still enjoy. It\'s hard nowadays because everyone expects a dance at the reception.
