An Environmentally Friendly Wedding [Page 1 of 2]

Have you noticed that the color green is getting more press than Paris Hilton these days? Green living, green energy, green tea. This may not be a color grooms like you incorporate into your everyday life, but when you're planning something as expensive and fleeting as a wedding, you just might want to consider it.

"The media has seized on environmentally-conscious weddings as a trend but I think they're here to stay," states Emily Anderson, pioneer of this new wave in wedding planning, in an interview with GroomGroove.com. Emily helped explain the idea behind this movement, and gave us some tips for making your wedding a more environmentally friendly one.

What is this "Eco-Chic" thing all about?

The notion of an environmentally-conscious wedding has just as much to do with planning a wedding that's happy and healthy for grooms and brides as they have to do with saving trees. Emily Anderson, owner of the popular blog, EcoChicWeddings.com, and author of the book "Eco-Chic Weddings", once planned weddings and events for Martha Stewart. Emily used invitations made from recycled paper for her own wedding in 2005. "This is the first time you're presenting yourself as a couple to the world," says Anderson. "It's more about being healthy physically, emotionally and globally."

Save the Environment, Spend a Fortune?

"Myth," says Anderson. Environmentally conscious weddings don't have to be more expensive than the typical wedding. Especially since such a large part of having an eco-friendly wedding is reducing wastefulness and excess from your plan, this can only have a positive impact on your bank account.

The Greener Groom and the Honeymoon

"Twenty percent of the overall budget for a wedding is spent on the honeymoon," Anderson tells us. And since, as the groom, you will be responsible for planning this getaway, here's your chance to make a difference. "Have you considered taking a cross-country train from New York to California for your honeymoon?" Anderson asks. The great thing about this idea is that it's affordable and your destination can be any stop along the way. Denver, Aspen, Chicago, see them all as you traverse the great U-S-of-A. Further, why not try camping in the Rockies or in Yellowstone National Park? This may be an idea to consider if all of your vacations as a couple have been to places like London, New York and Paris. (ed. - Camping is a real test of newlyweds' patience!)

I do agree with all the ideas you have introduced on your post. They are rlleay convincing and can definitely work. Still, the posts are too brief for novices. May you please lengthen them a little from next time? Thank you for the post.

Link You actually make it seem so easy with your proaintsteen but I find this matter to be actually something that I think I would never understand. It seems too complex and extremely broad for me. I intended to crteae you this very small note just to thank you so much as before over the lovely pointers you have documented in this case. It has been certainly particularly generous of people like you to provide without restraint precisely what some people could possibly have marketed for an electronic book to get some profit for their own end, certainly considering the fact that you might well have done it if you desired. The points in addition acted to be a fantastic way to be sure that someone else have a similar interest like mine to see good deal more with reference to this problem. I am certain there are some more enjoyable instances up front for many who looked at your blog.

Ian, take the tips and things you like from this site and leave your American "I have no impact on this planet" rhetoric and piss off. Feel free to wikipedia the term rhetoric as I'm sure you're too feebleminded to know the meaning.

I have enjoyed this website except for this article. Groomgroove, is this for real??? I didn't know this was a site for hippy Brokeback weddings in Massachusetts (not that there's anything wrong with that). But you've taken this "Green" thing, just like the media, to a ridiculous extreme. Man-made global warming is a political myth and you should leave politics out of this website. Although, if any grooms have tried to pull the, "Let's take a train across the country for our honeymoon to save the environment," then I would love to her your bride's reaction. For any that did do this, I'm guessing the "wedding night performance" section was not applicable.

A little skimpy on some really specific green weddings. Travel? Recycled paper for invites? That's not much guys. Really?

I love this website. I'm just kindof bummed we found it only 6 days before our wedding...

Screw this Green fad! I'm proud to say that my destination wedding this last January had a carbon footprint probably at least as large as my pickup truck will (from cradle-to-grave). And at the very least, I'm compensating for at least four or five Green Weddings here in the SF Bay Area. Ha ha!
