After all the hoopla, you and your wife will have one last wedding-related duty to complete – the wedding thank you cards. Before you tackle this task, make sure that you are up-to-speed on thank you card etiquette. There are three essential points you need to know:

1. You must send a card to everyone who gave you a gift (Tip: keep a running list of all the gifts you receive and from whom. Don’t leave this to memory!). This includes: your guests; anyone who did not attend your wedding, but who sent you a gift; anyone who provided a service as their gift (e.g., they may have lent you their car or allowed you to use their backyard for your reception or baked your wedding cake); and everyone in your wedding party, including your parents and in-laws.
2. All cards must be personal and handwritten in either blue or black ink. Although we are now living in an age of technology where email has become a perfectly acceptable way to send invitations, greeting cards, birthday cards and even RSVPs, it is NOT good form to send your thank yous via email.
3. Thank you cards should be sent within 2-4 weeks after the wedding. Any time later than 3 months is a major faux pas.
