give the gift of equity: OneShare.com [Page 1 of 1]

When it comes to thanking your best man and groomsmen for a job well done, a great gift is in order. As you begin to peruse the options available, however, you'll very quickly come to the realization that things can get cheesy and impersonal. GroomGroove.com suggests that you pass on the personalized shot glass in favor of a gift of stock from OneShare.com.

OneShare.com is a one-of-a-kind company founded by stockbroker Lance Lee in 1996. The company offers a customizable, framed stock certificate that makes an ideal gift (weddings aside).   You can customize not only the frame itself, but also the matte and an engraving. The stock you choose to purchase for the wedding party is up to you.

OneShare.com is designed to allow you to find a share by occasion, recipient or interest, among other things. You can find Starbucks stock for the groomsman who is never without his venti iced coffee, or a piece of Harley Davidson for the best man who has cubicle daydreams of taking a cross-country trip on a motorcycle. The price of the stock will obviously fluctuate, while the frame and shipping (mercifully) stays constant. For example, for the modern groomsman, one share of Apple stock is trading at $100.

Why a stock certificate in Apple Computer and not just an iPod? "OneShare is a fairly unique gift because you have to choose the brand or company the recipient has an affinity for," Lee notes. "It is perceived as a thoughtful gift."   Lee adds that the gift is continual, unlike a gift certificate. Or an iPod.

Curious, we asked Lee if he was aware of recipients of OneShare.com gifts who were subsequently inspired to purchase more stock in their company or brand.   Lee answers an emphatic "Yes!" "We get a lot of phone calls from people interested in direct stock purchase plans once they become shareholders," Lee says. "We are not a brokerage, but we refer people."   Lee notes that, while the gift is only a single share of stock, "it is a real share and entitles you to official shareholder correspondences, rights and privileges."

GroomGroove.com casts its vote in favor of OneShare.com and its product as a great gift idea.
