Best Advice for Grooms

02.27.09 | Comment?

The best advice we ever received was from Ariel, who runs a wedding webcast service. Ariel, being a religious-minded man, didn’t understand grooms who weren’t involved in the wedding process. (All of the guys at GroomGroove.com have a bit more sympath. We understand.) That said, he came up with a great counter to guys who didn’t really care too much about their actual wedding: “It’s a rite of passage.” Yup, that pretty much sums it up. A wedding is a rite of passage that a man goes through at some point in his life, whether he’s 18 and just out of school, 22 and coming back from deployment in Iraq or 45 and getting married for the first or third time. It IS a rite of passage, like going to a tryout for your high school football team, or going on a first date or buying a house. Don’t make the mistake that I made, which was to be passive about the wedding. Sure, I cut some ribbons for invitations, but I didn’t give my wedding the time of day. THAT was a mistake - it’s like I signaled to my wife that I wasn’t totally committed to marrying her, even if that wasn’t the case. As punishment, I’m forced by a sense of duty to run GroomGroove.com. ;) - Mike
