interview: a groom crafts a perfect wedding proposal
[Page 2 of 2]
GroomGroove.com: How did the proposal itself go? Graham: As the actual date approached, I made sure I had permission from her parents and then concentrated on making the proposal itself simple and romantic. I took her to our favorite picnic spot on our dating anniversary and handed her the globe all wrapped up with a bow on top. Inside she found a snow globe with a figurine of the two of us at a picnic, me down on one knee and the words "Marry me Kristen" written at the base. When she turned to me to see if it was really what she thought it was, I was already on one knee with the custom ring in hand. Through the tears, a saw her nod in approval. She was too emotional to speak, but I knew that she had accepted my proposal. GroomGroove.com: We can't imagine there is anything you would have done differently... Graham: I can't think of a single way it could have gone better. I put a lot of work into the planning of the proposal. I even had a contingency plan for rain that I hoped I wouldn't have to use. When I woke up on the day of the proposal I checked the weather forecast, which called for rain showers all day and night. I prayed that somehow the rain would hold off, and sure enough, about two hours before our picnic the clouds cleared out and the sun shined through a bright blue sky. GroomGroove.com: Where did the nice photos of the proposal come from? Graham: Well, several people asked if I could somehow film it so they could see her reaction. I thought about accommodating them, but in the end, the only thing that mattered was that it was perfect for us. The only ones who could truly appreciate the proposal and all of its parts were her and me. I chose to nix the idea of trying to photograph the moment or film it. That would've made everything far too complicated. After all, it sounds better when she tells it, than it could ever look on film. Just after the proposal itself and we took a moment together in peace, a tourist couple from Toronto showed up to photograph the beautiful scenery. Hey, I'm not saying there wasn't a bit of luck involved! GroomGroove.com: Do you have any advice out there for other guys thinking about taking the plunge? Graham: The single most important piece of advice I can give anyone is: It's all about your girlfriend! What made this proposal such a success - and a story she can't help but tell everyone she comes in contact with - was that it was right for her. Maybe your girlfriend loves snow globes, and she loves picnics, but chances are there is something different that is special to your relationship. The more you can tailor the proposal to your girlfriend and your relationship the more special it will be. [Page 2 of 2]
