If you and your fiancee are taking a break from the annoying things involved in planning your own wedding, it might be fun to pop in a flick about weddings to bring her wedding planning angst back down to planet Earth. Some of these films will make brides and grooms laugh out loud, give you ideas, and make you feel a whole lot better about the universal wedding experience.
- Wedding Crashers
No golden statues were handed out for this comedy. But for some of us who just want to sit back with a beer and enjoy the comic ease of Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn, Wedding Crashers will not disappoint. The plot centers on...oh never mind...
- The Philadelphia Story
A true classic and one for us guys. With Katharine Hepburn, Jimmy Stewart and Cary Grant, it's classic, Academy Award-winning cinema. Blackmail, old lovers and an innocent swim in the pool are all part of this 1940s comedy. You may never have heard of it, but you should know it.
- Father of the Bride
Steve Martin is in top comedic form in this early 90s classic. This one might actually help you understand the plight of your fiancee's father, and in fact, you can count your blessings you don't have wedding planners like Franck (aka Martin Short).
- Four Weddings and a Funeral
Long before he got in trouble with the law, "Charles" was Hugh Grant's breakout role. Andie McDowell's character "Carrie" is pretty hot and spicy in what the critics call a "delightful little romp." With just enough crazy character and truly funny moments, it's a much better way to spend two hours than enduring My Big Fat Greek Wedding.
- Monsoon Wedding
With a gorgeous cast and very capable director, Mira Nair (Vanity Fair, The Namesake), never was an arranged marriage during rainy season so enjoyable. Yup, it's a hardcore chick flick but if you owe her one, we recommend that you suggest this wedding movie.
And, finally, GroomGroove.com's runner up is The Wedding Singer, starring Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler.
